Winemaker Jean-Luc Hubert is a small Bordeaux producer for whom history, the life of the vineyard, and the estate are vital ingredients in the wine. This is a remarkable red from the Côtes du Bourg area, located opposite Margaux across the Gironde River. Château la Grolet is located just a few kilometers outside of Bordeaux proper, among rolling green hills, where they biodynamically farm Merlot, Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc and a bit of Malbec. This wine comes from clay and gravel soil in the Côtes de Bourg, which brings out supple fruit and spicy notes. A blend of mostly Merlot with Cab Sauvignon, it's a concentrated, robust wine with classic notes of red cassis, graphite, and a great tannic structure.
