A family property since 1874, grower-champagne Barnaut has thrived under the leadership of Philippe Secondé, who took the helm in 1985. Branaut’s signature Blanc de Noirs is comprised entirely from Pinot Noir from the Grand Cru village of Bouzy (arguably the most celebrated Pinot Noir growing region in Champagne). Since first making this Blanc de Noirs in 1995, Philippe quickly gained a reputation for making finessed renditions of Pinot Noir in contrast to the Blanc de Noirs made by his friend Francis Egly of Egly-Ouriet, whose style emphasizes the grape’s power and weight. Phillipe’s wines capture the richness and depth of fruit, but maintain a certain lightness on the palate. A medium to full bodied champagne with notes of lemon, wild strawberry, raspberry, biscuit dough and almond.
