Dirk Niepoort is one of the most important producers in Portugal over the past 15 years. He runs the famed Niepoort Port house, but also has helped lead the transformation in the Duoro Valley for the production of high-quality dry table wines, of which he makes excellent examples. In addition to the Duoro, he also makes wine in the Lima Valley of the Vinho Verde appellation in northern Portugal. Niepoort's Docil Vinho Verde is made from 100% Loureiro grapes from 20+ year old vines grown on granitic soils that are farmed organically. The wine is fermented in stainless steel with wild yeast and aged on the lees in tank for 5 month. Aromas of white flowers and bright citrus fruit explode from the glass, with an underlying note of clementine. The wine is light in body with avsharp, fresh acidity. Enjoy as a refreshing beverage on its own or pair with a light seafood salad.
