Lillian comes to us by way of vintner and winemaker Maggie Harrison of Antica Terra. During Maggie's seventh year working at Manfred Krankl's Sine Qua Non, she was given the opportunity to produce a few barrels of her own Syrah and in 2004, Lillian Winery was born. Maggie works with three vineyards in Santa Barbara: Bien Nacido, Stolpman, and Whitehawk and as she says, "The goal with the Syrah, as with all Lillian wines, is to work with these historical, noble varieties in a sun-drenched place but work with the fruit in such a way to give the wines levity and lift. A certain transparency and fineness of detail. While it doesn’t scream out the usual cocktail of blackberries, bacon fat, and lavender, this Syrah, like previous vintages ‘feels a bit more about the people and the places than the variety. The wines are lavish, but there is refined rocky quality in them that defies description.’ This newly released 2019 offers a "fleshy, vivacious palate that is packed tight with blueberry and violet. The finish is oh so long, framed in flowers and velvety tannins." While Antica Terra is focused on Pinot Noir from OR, Lillian is dedicated exclusively to producing Rhone varieties.
