Dark, deep and mysterious, the 2021 Mortar & Stone stimulates the senses and inspires the imagination. The intrigue begins with its concentrated purple color. Moving closer for inspection, uplifted aromas suggest cassis reduction, distressed leather, cigar wrapper, espresso, and toasted baking spices. The mouth-coating palate expresses layers of decadent cocoa nib, macerated blackberry, forest floor and cedar bark. Harvested from ancient head-trained, dry farmed vines grown in rocky soil, this wine will over-deliver and leave room for additional reflection. 70% Zinfandel, 20% Petite Sirah, 10% Charbono. Frank Dotzler, Mark Pulido and Donna Walker, and legendary winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown created the project in 2012.
